The tanning process leaves the leather with an almost waxy finish that is perfect for repelling water. Over years of use the leather will gain a beautiful character, a kind of travel artefact recording the countless miles traversed in that time. Swaine Adeney Brigg as founded in 1750. Since that time the company has made harnesses for kings, whips for viceroys, luggage for prime ministers and an attaché case for James Bond himself. The company is renowned for the quality of its workmanship, but also for the ‘bridle’ leather from which it makes the majority of its leather goods. This is full-grained calf hide that is saturated with oils during the tanning process to create a uniquely supple yet tough leather. No surface finishing is applied to the leather, so it accumulates an unmistakeable patina over the years.
