This round-lensed model is most famous for being Sir Winston Churchill’s frame design. The larger than life British leader was also a dapper dresser and his frames have rightly become known as a design classic. Named for Churchill’s country house ‘Chartwell’, these frames bestow an intellectual mien on the wearer. These spectacles have been made in almost exactly the same way for over a century – the definition of timeless design and construction.
C.W. Dixey & Son was established in London in 1777 by William Fraser. Over the following 240 years, the company has served seven successive kings and queens of England as well as making Napoleon Bonaparte’s telescope. The company has also created optical aids for nine other royal houses, including the emperors of China and India. The timeless simplicity of their spectacle designs has caught the eye of the stylish and debonair, with their most famous customers including Sir Winston Churchill and Ian Fleming. Still based in London, C.W. Dixey’s famous frames are now handmade in France.
